We’ve all heard of some pretty off the wall products when it comes to acne treatment…like toothpaste for example. But here’s something you probably haven’t thought about using and thats
There are lots of health forums stating that’s vicks vapour rub actually works
It must be noted though that Vicks certainly don’t market their product as an acne treatment
The only testament you need regarding the effectiveness of VapoRub is that it’s still around 122 years after it was first formulated for being a decongestant, cough suppressant, joint pain reliever. It does work very well for all of the complaints listed above, as well as being a great acne treatment.
While many of these treatments such as the myriad of creams, Clearasil, Neutrogena Proactiv worked for a short duration of time (or for milder cases of acne), none of them completely wiped away the boss of all pimples – cystic acne.
Vicks VapoRub can work wonders on the bigger, more irritating blemishes and even scars. And for anyone who has dealt with even a single cystic pimple, you know how large, painful and embarrassing they can be. And on top of that? They usually last for weeks.
After just two days of applying Vicks VapoRub can make a massive difference.
The magic ingredients
The active ingredients are simple and old-fashioned, as you’d expect. They include the following oils, which are all listed as cough suppressants and/or topical analgesics (for pain relief).
Also included is petroleum jelly, to bind it all together. You’d think this stuff would block pores, but it doesn’t – the long chain molecules which make it so sticky mean the Vicks doesn’t enter your pores, it just sits like a protective layer on top.
The other, inactive ingredients (which still play their part in calming acne) are cedarleaf oil, nutmeg oil, thymol and turpentine oil (?!).
On their own, each of these ingredients are antibacterial and can be soothing to the skin. But here’s the beauty of Vicks Vaporub – for treating acne, the sum of these essential oils is greater than any of them individually.
What I mean by this is that combined together in Vicks, they work incredibly well for killing acne, soothing inflammation + reducing redness
In many cases vicks vaporub can work miracles, just apply it on acne before going to bed and when you wake up, acne is gone
How to apply Vicks vaporub on acne
1. All you need is Vicks VapoRub and cotton
2. Dip the cotton into the jar and scoop out a tiny amount (just enough to cover the affected area)
3. Smear the ointment over the area (treat it as you would a topical acne medication)
By the way, don’t get it anywhere near your eyes, up your nose, in your ears or down your throat, otherwise much pain and suffering will result.
But be careful when and how long you plan to apply Vicks because there are couple of ingredients in it that can be potentially dangerous if consumed or used for an extended period of time. Those ingredients are cedarleaf oil and nutmeg oil. Although both aid in aromatherapy, both are still classified as poisonous and have been linked to various side effects such as hallucinations, abdominal pain and seizures.
